IR Services - Energy Audit
In both residential and commercial buildings, improper installation, poor workmanship, inferior materials, and aging components may result in high energy consumption. In addition, many problems related to heat leakage can lead to expensive repairs if they are not identified and addressed promptly. Since many of these problems are invisible to the naked eye, they may be missed during a conventional inspection. That's why you need IR Services.
Do You Need a Home Energy Audit?
The Department of Energy says that many households in America could save 20% to 30% on their household energy bills through cost-effective household improvements such as buying more energy-efficient products and appliances, sealing air and duct leaks, and adding insulation. With energy shortages and rising natural gas prices, an energy evaluation can make housing more affordable.
An energy evaluation service provides you with customized information on energy-efficient improvements for your home, such as how to improve comfort and reduce energy bills. When assessing your home, we analyze how it uses energy and where energy is being wasted.
Our evaluation includes the following:
- Identifying air-leakage points
- Collection data for modelling your home's energy use
- An estimate of annual energy consumption
- A report with customized energy upgrade recommendations for your home.
When we provide an energy audit, you’ll get a complete thermal audit of every aspect of your home or business. Our audits are conducted in accordance with best practices as determined by the Building Analyst Program accredited by BPI (Building Performance Institute). We utilize a blower door to pressurize or de-pressurize the structure and an infrared camera to scan every accessible exterior wall, window, ceiling, floor, HVAC ductwork, and recessed electrical fixtures in your building. This results in a set of thermographic images that clearly indicate areas where temperature varies markedly in relation to surrounding areas. We then analyze this captured data and create a detailed report of our findings. Either you or a contractor you employ can use the report to make follow-up investigations and undertake necessary repairs or alterations. (See Green Collar Crew Brochure)
What Problems Can We Find?
Our thermographic imaging can pinpoint the location of the following problems:
- Faulty windows
- leaks around frame – exfiltration, infiltration, crimped insulation,
poorly sealed door /windows
- leaks around frame – exfiltration, infiltration, crimped insulation,
- Building envelope
- wall heating or cooling leakage
- missing insulation
- heating and cooling losses due to poor construction,
missing insulation and moisture intrusion - Moisture in insulation
- Interior walls
- in walls behind outdoor cladding
- Radiant heat installation inspection
- HVAC ductwork leakage
- Roof inspections
- Find water infiltration
- Find air exfiltration
- Missing or bad shingles
- Poorly installed flashing
